During the time when my health dramatically changed, I did more than look in the dictionary. I explored alternative medicines. “Migraines are the body’s way to make a person stop and go into the darkness to see and hear more clearly.” That’s what a healer told me back in 1995. Then she added, “What’s the story in your head, Diane?” A desire to forget illness and pain kept me looking at my book of medical illustrations. I hoped to calm my anxiety and reduce my worry. My desire to find meaning during illness, smeared blue pastel across the paper.
The Red & Orange House relies on support from individual donors to maintain our work in hospitals and other healthcare facilities. Each gift brings another art-making experience to a patient’s bedside or their family while sitting in the family surgical waiting room. Donor benefits include a weekly subscription to our upcoming newsletter. You can share in the powerful healing moments experienced by program participants and their families.
